Happiness is . . . a good psychiatrist. Well, it is for those who are searching for a good psychiatrist. How does one find such a key to well being? Here are some of the traits of a good therapist that Psychology Today came up with: Spends an adequate amount of time with a patient and asks targeted questions that enable him/her to at least try to figure out a diagnosis and treatment plan; Listens, really listens, and conveys concern to the patient; Is respectful of the patient’s concerns and feelings; Has a good understanding of medications and their safety issues and interactions; Is flexible enough to try another treatment or approach (and another and another) if the first ones don’t work; Seeks consultation when the going gets rough; Sees the patients that are in distress frequently; and Is warm and empathic and has a manner that makes it easy for patients to feel comfortable confiding in him/her. There are many more but these are solid core elements to look for. If you happen to be looking in Frederick, Maryland look no further than Trevia F. Hayden, M.D., for she possesses these qualities. Some patient feedback reveals, “She is very knowledgeable . . . She has a great personality and is willing to give as much time as needed in the appointment for any questions you might have.” and “I love Dr. Hayden! I think she’s the best. She’s been great with me. You would want her to fit you in if you’re having a crisis. I feel really comfortable with her.” Trevia F. Hayden, M.D. is the Founder and Medical Director of Vitality Health Associates which provides conventional and traditional mental health services.

Owner, Interpreter, Coordinator

With These Hands • Interpreting Services for the Deaf, LLC

~

Nobel laureate Pearl S. Buck is quoted as saying, “Self-expression must pass into communication for its fulfillment.” This is true for art or for day to day conversation. For something so important, communication can be taken for granted so easily. When other languages come into the mix we are reminded how vital communication is. Yvonne T. Robinson is the Owner, Interpreter, Coordinator of With These Hands Interpreting Services for the Deaf, LLC. Her agency opens up lines of communication by providing professional interpretation services for deaf and hard of hearing individuals. With These Hands employs certified and qualified interpreters that are cognizant and respectful of cultural differences. In addition they are members in good standing with The National Registry for the Deaf and adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) professional code of conduct. Located in Mitchellville, Maryland, With These Hands Interpreting Services for the Deaf, LLC has experience in interpreting for government meetings, private sector meetings, training sessions, as well as in medical, educational, and religious settings.

Sign language interpreting is a rapidly expanding field. Schools, government agencies, hospitals, court systems, private businesses, and the performing arts employ interpreters. Interpretation is much more than literal translation. The interpreter must comprehend the signs, inflections, and intent of the deaf client while quickly adapting them into the appropriate English. Then this turns around and the capable interpreter must listen to and respond in a mode of communication preferred by the deaf consumer. A wide diverse knowledge of cultural practices is also a vital element for effective cross-cultural communications.

Yvonne T. Robinson earned a Bachelors Degree in Social Welfare from Ohio’s Central State University. From there she went southeast to matriculate at Howard University where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work with a Minor in Psychology. Ms. Robinson established With These Hands Interpreting Services for the Deaf, LLC in January 2001. For more than eleven years she has specialized in coordinating training and programs of government and private sector institutions and companies toward clear communication with their deaf employees. In addition to being an expert of American Sign Language she also has elite professional knowledge in sensitivity training for companies with deaf employees. Ms. Robinson is affiliated with: Registered Interpreter for the Deaf, RID; Potomac Chapter Registered Interpreter for the Deaf, PCRID and the National Alliance of Black Interpreters, NAOBI DC. She is also a Featured Member of Madison Who’s Who.

Fortunate to be fulfilled by her work, Yvonne is also fulfilled at home. Her husband Thomas is a retired Systems Accountant of the Federal Government. They have two daughters: Dana has followed in her father’s footsteps and is a Federal Government Accountant; and Keisha has blazed her own path as became a Medical Physician. Yvonne finds her fun in a quiet corner sewing or reading or in a more raucous environment like a bowling alley, and she enjoys traveling.

John G. Partilla III

~

Chief Operating Officer

~

Dentsu

~

In 1901, a journalist named Hoshiro Mitsunaga set up a news and advertising agency which would eventually become Dentsu, the single largest agency brand in the world. Fifty years after Dentsu’s beginning, the company set up its first broadcast networks in Japan and helped fledgling TV stations to find advertising. Another 50 year jump and Dentsu became involved in the mobile market; the results of this being QR codes, iButterfly, and mobile display ads. Dentsu broke another boundary in 2001 when it won an Academy Award for producing Miyazaki’s animated film “Spirited Away”. The company is among the top five sports marketing companies in the world. Dentsu’s ability to look ahead and sideways has established its future importance and widens its reach globally and in the spectrum of fields it covers.

John G. Partilla III is the Chief Operating Officer of Dentsu Network West. One of Mr. Partilla’s roles, in his position of COO, is Chief of Agency Integration at Dentsu Network, which entails aligning agencies around the globe with the strategy and business objectives of the overall network. As COO, Mr. Partilla also oversees building the overall architecture of the recently formed Network, operations, and leading agency business development strategies for the Network’s agencies. The agencies consist of 34 offices and more than 1,400 employees across the Americas, Europe and Australia. In addition, John is responsible for managing three of the Network’s five priority platforms: Networking, Growth, and Evolution of Products and Services.

Early on, John G. Partilla knew where to place his focus to get him to where he wanted to be. With a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from University of Delaware and an MBA from Columbia University, he began his career at Young and Rubicam where he rose to Managing Partner. In addition, he became the founder and CEO of Brand Buzz, a digitally driven agency that still thrives today. During his 18 years at Young & Rubicam, John amassed an extensive roster of strategic sales and brand development experience, having worked across many of the agency’s core accounts. He made the leap to the media sector when he signed on with Time Warner, where, for five years, he led the Global Media Group in its mission to work with major advertisers and help drive the growth of advertising and marketing revenue across all of Time Warner’s businesses. From Time Warner Mr. Partilla moved on to the position of Executive Vice President and President of Global Media Sales at Clear Channel Communications, Inc. At Clear Channel he led national business development across the company’s radio and outdoor businesses, and was a member of the Company’s Operating Board. His efforts here were rewarded as John was elected to Mediaweek’s “Leading Media Players 2010” (Position #9 out of 50).

Not one to rest on yesterday’s laurels, Mr. Partilla enlivens the present by combining lessons learned in the past with forward thinking. His investment in the future involves that of his field and the cultural arts his community. He is a member of the Advertising Education Foundation, AEF and a Board Member of the Second Stage Theatre.

Regional Consultant & CAD Teacher

~

AMBIT ENERGY

~

“Job titles don’t have much value when it comes to leading. True leadership cannot be awarded, appointed or assigned. It comes only from influence and that can’t be mandated.” This is a core theme in John C. Maxwell’s classic book on leadership, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership: Follow Them and People Will Follow You. This book is a favorite of George W. Seal, a man who has lead in many ways throughout his life’s path. Mr. Seal has served in the US Army, was a Draftsman, taught Drafting/CAD, and currently he is an Independent Regional Consultant for Ambit Energy.

George Seal was born in Hope – Hope, Arkansas. He was the seventh of eight children and the sixth son of seven. His birth order as one of the youngest in his family may have had some influence on him as common traits of this category are creativity, amiability, and expedience. In his youth, George also learned to be adaptable as he was raised in Oklahoma, West Texas, East Texas, and South Texas. He graduated High School and went on to study at Austin College in Sherman, Texas and Grayson County Jr. College. In 1967 he was drafted, but chose to join the Army as an OJT Supply Clerk which took him to Ft. Lewis, Washington. It was around this time and place that George met the love of his life – Pauline Joan Donnelly. They were married shortly after he was discharged from the Army. George returned to his studies at Grayson County Jr. College towards an AAS Degree in Drafting, and he was employed by Texas Instruments as a draftsman. In pursuit of a Bachelors Degree in Drafting and Design Technology he transferred to Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma, and he worked for The Pillsbury Company as a draftsman. After receiving his degree and speaking to his best friend, George decided to become an educator. He was given a teaching position in Alvin, Texas in August 1977.

For the past 35 years he has been a teacher of Board Drafting and Computer Aided Drafting. CAD involves more than just making shapes; the output of CAD must convey information, such as materials, processes, dimensions, and tolerances, according to application-specific conventions. CAD is an important industrial art extensively used in many applications, including automotive, shipbuilding, and aerospace industries, industrial and architectural design, prosthetics, and many more. This past year George Seal made the decision to retire from teaching. This doesn’t mean he intended to retire from working. George has a work ethic that doesn’t rest. He has never worked only one job in all of his life. He consistently goes that extra mile, sometimes quite literally. During his time in Alvin, George drove a truck for a vacuum company for two summers. In addition he sold Amway for ten years and he was hired to draw house plans (board and computer). As previously stated he currently is an Independent Regional Consultant for Ambit Energy. Ambit Energy provides electricity and natural gas services in deregulated markets across the United States. Their motto is, “Never sacrifice integrity for growth”. George Seals has been a member of the Lions Club International for 20 Years and he is a VIP Member of Madison Who’s Who.

“Never sacrifice integrity for growth”, this motto is a natural fit for George Seal, whose integrity is his way of life. His life’s major inspiration is his family. He and Pauline had a daughter and two sons. In a sad turn cancer took Pauline’s life when their children were 10, 7, and 6. He was a single parent for the next ten years. He married again, and he and his second wife added a son to the family. However, this marriage did not last and for the last two years he has been going though a divorce. To keep on the lighter side of life George enjoys golf and table tennis.

George W. Seal can be found on the Madison Who’s Who Directory where he is looking forward to networking with you.

Jan F. Karlsson

~

Animal and Landscape Artist

~

The Taiga is distinguished by pines, cedars, firs, and other such evergreen trees. It is a biome characterized by coniferous forests. This biome makes up 29% of the world’s forest cover. It is encountered in inland Canada and Alaska, those areas deemed the Northwoods in the northernmost areas of the continental United States, much of Russia, northern Kazakhstan, northern Mongolia, and northern Japan, and last but not least most of Scandinavia. In Alvsbyn, Sweden artist Jan Karlsson found his muse in the northern taiga. Its animals and the genuine scenery of its landscape provide ample subjects for his canvas. Presently, oil-paint is his medium. He has a background in lead pencils, felt pens, poker-work, and colored pencils. As his paintings have been well received, Mr. Karlsson has been sought out many times as an illustrator for different hunting-magazines and books, and he has taken part in television programs.

The remarkable abilities that Jan Karlsson exhibits on canvas are made all the more impressive by the fact that he is an autodidact, he is completely self-taught. He gives credit to his environment as a powerful influence. The four seasons in Alvsbyn, Sweden have a heightened quality and range from a winter day’s spectrum of darkness to the ever-shining midnight sun of summer. Speaking about his work, Jan says, “As an animal and landscape artist my greatest interest is to see the connections in nature, then depict and express events and atmosphere in the landscape. What I mainly paint or draw are the untouched genuine milieus which exist and have existed in the north of Sweden. In my paintings there often is an animal which dominates. There is an event carried out by the animal. The animal is active, doing something, and this is appreciated by the onlooker.” His paintings are shown in various galleries throughout Sweden and also at group exhibitions with other nationally known animal and landscape painters. Painting is his main occupation in life and a hobby in the sense of being an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation. He also enjoys any pastime that gets him out into nature, like skiing.

Lares Doctor’s Clinic

~

Pediatricians, the wide world over, dedicate their practice and expertise to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. In Puerto Rico’s medical facilities are among the finest in the Caribbean and their health standards are generally comparable to those of the United States. Dr. Cristina Jimenez-Gonzalez practices Pediatrics at the Lares Doctor’s Clinic in Lares, Puerto Rico. Her practice administers to newborns, infants, children, and adolescents.

Lares is a beautiful town up in the green mountains of northwestern Puerto Rico. One could consider it very child friendly because one of this place’s claims to fame is an ice cream shop, Heladeria Lares. It has been reported that they have created recipes for 1,000 flavors in their 34 years in business, but only 45-50 are available daily. Luckily, for the children’s health not every flavor is kid friendly. In any event the children of Lares are fortunate to have one such as Dr. Cristina Jimenez-Gonzalez watching over their health.

In 2000 Cristina Jimenez-Gonzalez received her M.D. from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. She spent her residency in pediatrics at Hospital Regional Ramon Ruiz Arnau in Bayamon, P.R., which she finished in 2006. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Colegio de Medicos de P.R.

Children are an essential part of her home life. Dr. Jimenez-Gonzalez and her husband have a five year old boy and a daughter is on the way. In addition to spending time with her family, Cristina enjoys traveling, going to the beach, and reading.
